Statistik 2009 - Part II

Dieses Jahr habe ich fertiggestellt / This year i've finished:
  • 4 Jacken / jackets
  • 1 Mantel / coats
  • 11 Tops / tops
  • 5 Röcke / skirts
  • 2 Hose / pants
  • 2 Kleider / dresses
  • 1 Kapuzenpulli für meinen Holden / a hoodie for my DH
  • 4 gestrickte Projekte / knitting projects

The funny thing is that i'm surprised by the numbers by myself: For example, i love to sew dresses, jackets and coats. I'm really surprised that i've only made 2 dresses. On the other hand, i've made 5 skirts even though i don't wear skirts very often ... but i think it's due to the SWAP.

And there is a clear winner regarding my pattern choices:
  • 8 x Burdastyle
  • 6 x BWOF
  • 4 x Patrones
  • 4 x Eigenkonstruktion / Self-Drafted
  • 2 x McCall
  • 1 x Vogue
  • 1 x Manequim

And these are my this-year-favorites:

Chocolate Coat

P.u.c.c.i Dress

I love these two projects the most. It seams that i work better the more "precious" a fabric is. Maybe it's because it is easier to sew with or i'm more focussed and concentrated or i don't rush in a project ... or all of it. It doesn't matter, these are my highlights of 2009!

And these are the most worn garments (except my Chocolate Coat):

Top
BWOF 10-2008-114

Bleistiftrock/ Pencil skirt
Schnitt selbstkonstruiert / Pattern self-drafted

Rock & Oberteil

Statsitik 2009 - Part I

Halli Hallo, meine lieben Leser!

Hello, my dear reader! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas time!

Another year went by, so it's time to see how the last year was ... Seams i'm the little sister of
Count von Count :-) Last year I've recorded everything i've spent on sewing. First of all, i've wanted to see how much i've spent at all and what for ......

Alles in allem also nichts Überraschendes oder Erschreckendes.

Alltogether nothing surprising or horrifying. I've really tried to repress my greed for new fabrics! And I think that the money i've spent is within the limits.

But something was quite interesting: What i've bought. And i was surprised how much of the money i've spent on notions. It wasn't a big surprise that most of the money went for fabrics but the amount for notions was surprisingly high. I have to admit that i am willing to pay more for a beautiful fabric but i am annoyed spending money on threads or zippers. I always think that all these notions are overpriced. Hmmhh, maybe i have the wrong attitude ... I know that it's not worth to buy cheap fabrics of low quality whereas i can't see the difference in cheap and expensive notions .....

That was part I of the 2009 statistics, mor tomorrow!

Lieber Weihnachtsmann / Dear Santa Claus

.... this year i've already made myself presents. Thus, i'm sooo modest and have only one single wish from you. Please give me enough time to sew up all of these beautiful things :-)

Presseschau: BWOF 01-2010

Nun, dann will ich mal meinen Senf dazugeben :-)

I've received the January issue of BWOF a few days ago .... (ignorant as I am i still call it BWOF). Time to put my two cent's in it :-)

As always some crafty tipps at the beginning. I like the advices how to pleats and drape .... and the advice for refashioning your grandmother's tablecloth makes sense from an ecological point of view .... but does this suits your taste?!

Right now, i really love clothes in winter white. The setting looks great as well, but i do not feel the love for these patterns .....

Anschließend stehen Aufregende News ins Haus / Exciting News

It' about outfits in black and olive. I like the fabrics and i like the color combination as well. I also think the outfits are accessorized nicely. But again i do not love the patterns .....

Again the same problem. Nice fabrics, but not my cu of tea: too konservative, too simple, without something special and eyecatching.

I do not ski and i do not live approximately near any mountains such that my excitements about new ski clothes is quite moderate.

.... and as confessed enemy of carneval i wrap myself into silence.

Afterwards, needless and tasteless advices how to "prettify" a chair .... ummmhh .... alright, i can live with the studs, but what the heck is this?!?

I'm speechless due to the cruelty against me, my eyes, the innocent mouses and the harmless chair. I 'm thinking about contacting the people from Peta :-D

All joking apart, i would prefer if BWOF would concentrate on their core competence (patterns). I can also live with stitching, knitting, crocheting and everything about pimping your clothes. But just because i sew doesn't mean i'm a DIY-freak. No, i don't pimp my chairs und i also do not need any advice how to organize my tools (october 2009) .... something i've needed to say :-)

This time it's about the mini-dress. I don't know if the bright green disturbs my eyes but i can't feel excitement about the patterns ... but usually i like this topic because it shows how simple changes and a little phantasy can change a pattern ....

Fazit:

Conclusion:
I think i'm disappointed with this issue. I like the setting and the pictures of the patterns as well as the choice of fabrics and colors. But regarding the patterns there isn't one single pattern i want to sew. I hope i like the next issue more!

Karen Cardigan von Burdastyle. - Part II

(English)

Beschreibung:

Was magst Du besonders bzw.

Verwendeter Stoff:
2m Strickstoff in beige.

Änderungen an dem Schnittmuster oder am Design:
Keine.

Pattern Description:
Perfect for Autumn days we’ve created a cardigan with a flowing, extended lapel which will cascade over your favorite Fall pieces. This cardigan has 2 button holes at the side seams to lead a belt through for cinching the waist or to create a variety of interesting silhouettes. You can make this piece from slightly slouchy knits like cashmere, wool or a cotton/rayon blend. (original text from burdastyle.com)

Pattern Sizing:
34-46. I've made a size 34.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, i think so.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, very easy.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like how the front pieces drape and cascade. But i'm not sure if this wide and not fitted top is the right thing for my body shape. But it's very, very comfy indeed.

Fabric Used:
2m knit fabric in a golden beige.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
None.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would recommend it, if you like this style for you. It's much better then the Cozy i've already made. But i'm not sure if i would sew it again.

Conclusion:
Quick and easy to sew and comfortable to wear. But i'm not sure if i like it on me. Maybe i should combine it with more fitted clothes and not with my usual jeans.

Montag, 14. Dezember 2009

O how joyfully, o how blessedly, comes the glory of Christmastime .... time for drinking tea, baking cookies and a warming fire in the chimney ...... duuhh! It's very stressful right now. Threfore, i've no time or no power for sewing. So i need different ways for stress relief - shopping for example :-)
  1. Knöpfe von Escada

I've bought 5 sets á 12 buttons on ebay for only 5€. I've only wanted to buy the dark brown buttons for my Chocolate Coat, but i've already paid the shipping costs so why limit myself to only one set :-)

  3. Schnittmuster vom Big3-Pattern Sale

    I'm still waiting for the patterns but for completeness this is what i've bought:V1087, V8576, V8548, V1029, V1105, V8550 und B5385.

  5. 2m weicher Mantelflausch mit Kaschmir in wollweiß für V8548

  6. Romanit-Jerseys je 2m in dunkelbraun und beige

  7. 3m dunkelblauer Stoff (außen beschichtet, innen Jersey)

  8. 2m Sweatshirtstoff in bordeaux-rot (innen geribbelt, nicht gerauht)

Karen Cardigan von Burdastyle

Bild Eigentum von / image courtesy of : burdastyle.com

Every now and then i need a quick and easy project to preserve my mojo. So i've decided to make the Karen Cardigan from Burdastyle next. I think the technical drawing is promising. The front pieces are draping so much nicer then on the Cozy i've sewn before and also the sleeve solution looks better. The sleeves on my cozy always slip down my shoulders which is why i don't like to wear it :-(

New game, new luck!

And this is my fabric: A beige knit with a slight golden shimmer.

Chocolate Coat - Part V

Finally i've managed to take pictures if my Chocolate Coat. I've finished the coat some time ago ... and since then i've worn it every single day .... i've to admit: I LOVE my new coat!

I've used Vogue 8307 as the basic pattern and i'm really excited about its good fitting. The pattern is strongly waisted which works pretty well for my body shape. Usually i need to take out about 8cm width at the waist when i'm using a BWOF pattern. I've sewed this right out of the envelope .... not one single change in the fitting. But for the design i've made several changes:
  • To make the bottom more flared, i've added about 2cm width at the hem of each pattern piece.
  • I've added front and back yokes,
  • as well as a different collar.
  • Last but not least, i've added a belt and belt loops.

I'm totally happy with the result. This time everything worked out fine: The coat fitted like a glove, it was a dream to work with this fabric and the finished coat turned out the way i've imagined it. I love my new coat and i will probably invest my money in Vogue patterns more often. Oh, and here are the pictures of my new coat:

Boys in the Hood - Part II

I'm done with the first (of two) sweaters for my DH. I've made a hoodie in a brown sweatshirt fleece. And to make it more fashionable i've added front yokes like on military jackets ..... my DH called it "monch uniform" .... but see for yourself:

For the finishing, i've used something new. I sewed the seams as usual (right side on right side with a normal, straight stitch). Then i've ironed the seam allowances aside and topstitched the seams with a twin needle sucht that the seams are right in the middle of the twin needle. Then i've cut back the seam allowances. IMO it looks really nice from outside as well as from the inside.

Boys in the Hood

Vielen, vielen Dank!

First of all i want to thank you all for all the nice and lovely comments on my Swap! Thanx!

My coat is nearly done! I've handstitched the seams during the week while watching TV. All what is missing, are the buttons. I did't like the buttons i've originally intended to use ... and i didn't found matching buttons at my local department store ... so i've bought buttons on Ebay. Don't know if they match .... so i can't do anything then wait ... and start something new :-)

Next on my list are two hoodies for my DH ..... made from cosy sweatshirt fleece, sporty and comfy for a walk or other freetime activities ... one in brown and one in navy. I will trace the pattern from one of his Longsleeves and add some details to make it more fashionable. So here are the fabrics:

BMV: Pattern Sale

There is a pattern sale on Vogue, Butterick and McCall - i.e. each pattern for $4.25. There have been a few patterns i've wanted to have for a longer time. So i couldn't resist the temptation .... I hope it doesn't take too long until i've got them!

SWAP 2009: Final Pictures

So, here are you can see all pictures of my new wardrobe from the SWAP 2009 .....

SWAP 2009: Bottom No. 4

Now, I've made the ten. This is the tenth and last piece of my SWAP: A beige skirt with a slight A-line made from a cotton fabric in beige. I've finished it a while ago but didn't had the time to take pictures .... The pattern is self-drafted - a quite simple A-line skirt. Nothing more to say, so here are some details from the inside:

Chocolate Coat - Part IV

I've made another step on my way to finish the coat: I've sewed the lining and also attached it to the coat.
As much as i love to sew jackets and coats, as much do i fear sewing the lining. Or more precisely, setting in the sleeves of the lining. It's fiddly and you can use thousands of pins the fabric is moving still. But now i'm done with the lining.
I still need to sew the buttons and handstitch the seam and then it's done!

Neue Stoffe

I was shopping again and bought some new fabrics :-)

This is a taffeta in pastel colors (do you call this soft change of color "ombre"?). It will become a sommer skirt.

I'v bought this Lycra in a nude color, something between pale pinkt and taupe, for only 3€/m.

And this is what i plan to make: Vogue 1029. It's a dress by a Michael Kors design. I love it. But i will omit the back draping (because this would cause more attention than my backview can stand).

Chocolate Coat - Part III

And i'm still making little progress on my coat: I've added the collar and now you get an impression how the finished coat will look like.

The coat looks soooo much better in real. The picture is taken with a flash und i've also used an image processing program to set up the brightness. The color of the fabric is warm and the texture of the fabric is so beautiful *sigh*

I've used Vogue 8307 as the starting point and made the following changes:
  • I've drafted the collar on my own,
  • added a belt and belt loops and
  • constructed front and back yoke.
The fitting of this pattern is awesome, right out of the envelope. I didn't change anything, really. I'm so enthusiastic. The price of a Vogue pattern seems to be worth every Penny - at least in this case. Now i "only" need to sew the lining and attach the lining to the coat.

Presseschau: BWOF 12-2009

I can't believe that it's already so late in the year and that another month flew by so quickly ..... So let's get into media res ... and start with the first topic of the December issue of BWOF: Nachtschwärmer

Modell 106:

I really like this dress. But i really don't understand why the editorial staff at BWOF believes everyone dresses up in tiny tiny chiffon dresses for Christmas .... but the dress is great. Maybe something for the summer.

Modell 107:

I like the lapels, it's very stylish. But i would omit the epaulettes ... i think it would be even better as a vest ...

Modell 102:

I know, it's all a matter of taste ... but i'm not so much into this one-shoulder-thing .... and this asymmetric seam ... and made in chiffon .... this looks so cheap ..... something i really don't like .....

Modell 108:

Dear Burda, what kind of Joan-Collins commemoration-jacket is this? Is there anybody in your staff who would wear it in a non-alcoholized state ... at daylight ... in public ... and feeling comfortable?

Alright, let's skip to the next topic: Cocooning

Modell 102:

This coat looks great ... i would sew it in a different length ... with my size i would look like a dwarf. I like the lines and the collar ... but i'm not sure about the 3/4 sleeves ... i don't know if this is working here in german winter time.

Modell 119:

This one made it to my imaginary to-sew-list. This wrap-jacket looks comfy and cosy und will look great with a dress and boots as well as with jeans or pants. I like it in this color and in this fabric.

After some Cocooning at home, let's get outside:

Modell 110 bzw. 111:

I can imagine this jacket in a warm and comfy sweatshirt fleece.

Modell 134:

Without giving away too much: Next on my list is a hoodie for my DH. So this pattern is right in time!

The next topic are clothes to celebrate Christmas ... nothing that i like.

The next in the list is Aus 1 mach 4. This time it's about capes. On the hand hand i always fear cold arms, when i think about capes. Even thoug i really think they're tres chic. On the other hand there have been cape patterns in back issues that i liked more. Again, nothing that appeals to me.

Fazit:

Conclusion:
One "Yes, i will sew that" and four "maybe, let's see" and one "nice, but it's not working for me" ... that's not too bad ....
