Who's the Boss?! - Part III

Puuuh, endlich ist der neue Mantel für meinen Schatz fertig - und das pünktlich zum Eintreten der Eiszeit ;-)

Puuh, finally the coat for my DH is finished - on time with the beginning ice age here in Germany ;-)

Bei den Knopflöchern hatte ich ja auf Grund der Dicke des Stoffes so meine Probleme. Letztendlich habe ich mir mit Druckknöpfen ausgeholfen. Ein weiteres Problem ist, dass der Mantel vorne aufspringt. Leider habe ich bei den Nahtzugaben kein Spiel mehr, so dass ich keine Mehrweite zugeben kann. Nichtsdestotrotz bin ich sehr zufrieden mit dem Endergebnis, habe eine Menge dazu gelernt und mache drei Kreuze, dass ich den Mantel nun endlich fertig gestellt habe.

I had some issues with this coat. First, the fabric was so thick that i wasn't able to sew proper buttonwholes. In the end, I've attached snaps. Another problem is that there is a gap in the front. Unfortunately, i can not add more width by reducing the seam allowances. Nonetheless, i'm happy with the final result, learned a lot during and im thankful that i've finally finished this sewing project.

Die Fotos sind heute morgen um 6.45 Uhr in aller Eile aufgenommen worden und taugen daher nur bedingt. Daher folgen bessere Fotos und eine ausführliche Schnittmuster-Besprechung dann am Wochenende.

Ja, dieser Song geistert mir seit gestern im Kopf herum. Warum? Weil ich es geschafft habe, den Mantel für meinen H auf den letzten Metern zu verhunzen!!! Der Mantel sollte fertig werden, es war schön spät am Abend und ich wollte "nur noch schnell" die Knopflöcher nähen. Tja, doofe Idee! Das kommt dabei raus.....

Since yesterday, I have this song in my mind. Why? Because I've screwed the coat for my H!!!
I wanted to finish the coat, it was already late in the evening and i "just" wanted to sew the buttonholes. Bad idea! This is the result of my acting.....


Entgeistert habe ich den Mantel dann gestern in die Ecke geworfen....In den nächsten Tage werde ich hoffentlich die Motivation zusammen kriegen, die verhunzten Knopflöcher doch noch irgendwie zu retten.....

Afterwards i was so nerved....I hope that i will find the motivation and a way to rescue the coat.....

Ja, das letzte Wochenende war ein Wochenende voller Mißerfolge....Im Sauseschritt habe ich an meinem Mantel genäht....Zur Erinnerung, es sollte BWOF 08-2004-101 werden. Und ja, gerade den Kragen fand ich so schön....

Last weekend was full of disappointments...I was so proud how much progress i also did on my coat....I've intended to sew BWOF 08-2004-101. And yes, i especially liked the collar...


Hah, Pustekuchen! Der Mantel sieht fürchterlich an mir aus, passt überhaupt nicht und besonders der Kragen ist fürchterlich! Tja, wäre der Stoff nicht so schön, würde es wohl ein TfT (Teil für die Tonne) werden. Aber....nun ja....so werde ich wohl doch noch eine Rettungsaktion starten....Ich geh jetzt in die Ecke schmollen und komm erst wieder, wenn ich Positives zu berichten habe ;-)

Argh! It looks ugly on me, the fitting is bad and especially the collar is horrible! I would throw it away, if the fabric wouldn't be so precious and beautiful. So...now....i need to find a way to rescue this coat, too.....I'm off in anger and won't return until i have better news ;-)

Who's the Boss?! - Part II

Soderle, hier ein kleiner Zwischenstand....viel ist in den letzten Tagen nicht unbedingt passiert, aber inzwischen hat der Mantel für meinen H sein Futter kennen gelernt. So sieht das gute Stück also inzwischen aus. Am Wochenende muss mein H also Modell stehen, damit ich die Säume abstecken kann. Und dann geht es an den leidigen Teil: per Hand säumen. Ich bin also guter Dinge, dass der Mantel am Wochenende fertig wird. Ich halte euch auf dem Laufenden!

So here is a little progress report.....there was only a little progress in the last few days but the linning is in now. This is how the coat now looks like. At the weekend we will have another fitting sucht that i can start with the seams. And then the exasperating part begins: sewing the seams by hand. But i'm in good spirits that i will finish the coat at the weekend. I will keep you up-to-date!

Who's the Boss?!

Der Winter hat uns ja nun vielerorts vollends erwischt und mein H fängt langsam an zu frieren. Höchste Zeit also mit dem lange angekündigten Wintermantel anzufangen. In Ermangelung eines geeigneten Schnittes habe ich als Grundlage den Schnitt The Stinchcomb von Burdastyle benutzt. Ich habe aber einiges ändern müssen....

• Zunächst musste ich den Schnitt ein wenig enger machen.
• Dann musste ich den Schnitt noch verlängern.
• Außerdem habe ich andere Taschen gewählt.
• Und zu guter Letzt habe ich das Revers vergrößert (allerdings mache ich es nun doch etwas kleiner - so wie es auf dem Foto ist, ist es mir zu wuchtig)

Das Einsetzen der Ärmel hat mich einiges an Nerven gekostet. Warum kann ich gar nicht so genau sagen. Es wollte einfach nicht so, wie ich.....Die nächsten Tage nehme ich also das Futter in Angriff. Dann gibt es hoffentlich auch ganz bald etwas zu berichten!

Now winter time has arrived and my H starts to freeze. Time to get the long promised coat started. Because I couldn't find the right pattern I've used the pattern The Stinchcomb from Burdastyle. But there were several changes to make....

• I've needed to take in some width.
• And I've needed to lengthen the pattern to make it a coat.
• Additionally I've chosen different pockets.
• And in the end I've made the lapels bigger than in the original pattern (after all I've decided that i will make the lapels smaller than shown in the pics).

Everything went quite well - except setting in the sleeves. It was kind of nerve-wracking, even though i don't know why it didn't work...I will start with the lining in the next few days. Hope there will be some progress report very soon!
