Oldie but Goldie

(English)

Was magst Du besonders bzw.

I have to blame this dress totally on my dear husband. I've bought some black Punta di Roma knit, to make it into a dress. But somehow i couldn't decide which pattern i should use. Therefore, i've asked my husband for advice. And he decided on Burda 09-2006-114. And as a good wife i always listen to what my husband says *lol*

It is not totally finished. I still have to sew buttons on the shoulder tabs and the front pockets. I plan to use some nice golden buttons .... to emphasize the military style of the dress. But even though i have quit a big button stash i don't have the right buttons for this dress. Therefore, i still have to go on the hunt for buttons ..... Nonetheless, here is my pattern review:

Pattern Description:
Wrap dress with shoulder tabs and breast pockets made from a knit fabric.

Pattern Sizing:
34 - 40. I've made a size 34.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, except that i've made it with long sleeves.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Ummmhhh, as always i just sewed it in the way it made sense to me and thus, didn't read nor followed the instructions. Therefore, i can't say anything about them.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I loved that this is a simple wrap dress which is spiced up with some military details as shoulder tabs and the pocket flaps.

Fabric Used:
1,8 m of black Punta di Roma. The fabric sewed up like a dream. And even though it contains about 65 % Polyester (30% Rayon, 5% Elasthan) it feels nice and comfortable. I liked so much that i've ordered some more of this fabric (in different colors).

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
To make this into a appropriate winter dress, i've made it with long sleeves instead of the original 3/4 sleeves. But otherwise, i didn't change one thing.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I'm not sure. I'm more than happy with the result. Nonetheless, i don't know if i would sew it again. There are too many other patterns i would like to sew. But i can highly recommend it to others.

Conclusion:
I should listen to my husband more often :-) I looove my new dress. The pattern is classy but yet stylish due to the shoulder tabs and pockets. And the fabric choice makes it comfortable and nice to wear.

Detail picture of the front view ......

..... and another close up of the front .....

.... for the inside seams i used something similar to flat felled seams.....

.... and the hem is finished with my 4mm twin needle.

Your dress is lovely. I've fallen in love with ponte de roma so you know I'm drawn to your dress. You just can't go wrong with a classic black either.

What is ponte di roma called in German, please? I live in Denmark and I want to look for it. :-)

Hi Anne! The fabric is called "Romanit" or "Romanitjersey" in German. So, i'm not quite sure if Ponte di Roma is the right english translation, but i hope so.

I wish you good luck on your search for this fabric because it sews and wears very well.

Best wishes, Sena

Hi Sena,

I've never heard of that - I must do some better research. Thanks. :-)
