Presseschau: 09-2010

Thank you all for your wonderful comments on my new jacket. Unfortunately, i didn't had time to finish it yet and i have already appointments for the whole weekend. So no sewing this weekend .... but the Burda September issue is here. So let's start to trash!

Folklore

Phew, seeing this i have to take a deep breath first ... but this is beyond good and evil! What kind of LSD high has led to this fabric, color and print combination?!?

Neue Moderne

The caption sounds quite promising .... but the pattern do not live up to its promises. There is no pattern that really catched my eye ....

A turtleneck is truly a useful wardrobe staple for fall and winter. But to be honest ... that is nothing i need a pattern for. I can draft a pattern for this on my own. IMO Burda could have at least added some interesting detail like some gathered sleeves or some draping. But this is just *boooring*

These two pieces are the only patterns from this issue that i like at all: The dress from the cover, No. 122, und the corresponding skirt, No. 116. I like the lines of it. If i will ever sew this dress, i would change the sleeves and sew it with "normal" sleeves.

Actually, a nice idea to present one pattern in two different ways, more classy and more fashion forward. But again, the pattern do not keep up with what the title promises. I think the trenchcoats, No. 113, are nice. But i personally prefer a closer fit and thus princess seams .... so again nothing good for me .....

When i saw the preview, at least i liked the houndstooth coat, No. 101. However, i think the coat is missing a collar. It looks unfinished or incomplete to me. I think i was more torn by the fabric choice then by the pattern itself ... i have more beautiful coat patterns than that in my stash .....

Fazit:

Conclusion:
This was a really disappointing issue - IMO the worst for a long time. The best from this whole issue is the preiew for the October issue. It should contain two patterns by Karl Lagerfeld (i'm really looking forward to it) and there will be a 50'ies inspired thene ... but we are looking forward rather not too early ......

Yes, I agree with you. This magazin so poor.
I wonder if the Burda team read on the internet the opinions?

No no no - I heartily disagree! This is the first issue in almost a year that had more than one pattern I actually wanted to make. Seriously, I counted and there are ELEVEN "must sews" for me in here. Seriously, this is their best issue since Dec 2009 as far as I'm concerned. I would happily make the entire Couture section. and how could you not love the leather jacket? And the surplice white silk blouse? But most of all, I ADORE the Tall cocoon coat (#118). I simply cannot wait for this issue to arrive!

Mmm... I agree and diagree, the dress (and skirt) you posted are nice enough for me to buy the whole magazine, I LOVE the sleeve-things and I must make it (but then there are SO many things I must make). SO I'll buy it, which doesn't happen often. And I agree with Fehrtrade, the leather-jacket is really nice. We'll see what time makes of it, sometimes I discover things I overlooked in old issues, and sometimes they age very unwell...

LG
Teresa

Wow, it seems the opinions about this issue really diverge. Right now, i really do not like it at all. But maybe someone out there in blogger country teach my otherwise?!
