Amsterdam and Help Needed .....

Dear readers, we're back from Amsterdam, NL, .... and it was amazing. If you hear Amsterdam and only think of Coffeeshops and the red light districht you're totally wrong. This city as so much more to give. All the nice grachten (canals?), the old houses along the grachten and the warm, relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the whole town .....

.... but also for my small little heart of a seamstress there was a lot to see ... for example the Albert Cuyp market .... beside stalls with fish, cheese, fruits and vegetables there are also stalls with fabric ......

And the nice thing is that there a lot of fabric stores along the road where the market is. And even if the stores look tiny from outside, they're worth a visit. Inside there are balls and balls of fabric stapled from the floor to the ceiling .....

I bought some fabric at silkroute (Albert Cryupstraat 222A). From the outside the store looked like a Bollywood fabric store, a little bit cheap and tacky ... but that's wrong. Inside they have beautiful designer silks from Gaultier , Yves Saint Laurent and so on. Most of the silks were somewhere between 24,- and 34,- Euro per meter. This is usually beyond my pain threshold, but it's a really good price for that quality. So, I bought this beauty:

The fabric feels so luscious and precious and the fabric can be worn with so many colors from my color palette. I've bought 1 meter for a top or blouse. If i only think about cutting into this treasure of mine, i break down in cold sweat ....

And then there is a great shop for trims and buttons: Jan (Albert Cuypstraat 203A). It has a great variiety of buttons, closures and trims, overlock konen and much more .....

And of course, I've searched for buttons for my red coat. And since i coudn't decide - and until now can't - i bought both of my favorites ......

Knopf No.1

Knopf No. 2

And then, the Netherlands are the home of Knipmode magazine which you can buy for example at the newsstand at the main station .......

Now i'm back and ready to finish my coat. If only i can make a decision about the buttons .... Dear readers, which buttons are your favorites? Here is a picture of the coat .... i know it looks wonky and twisted and not nearly as nice as worn, but maybe these crappy pictures are a help to make a decision .... and i will post nicer pictures when the coat is ready!

No. 1 is safe and classic, beautiful. No. 2 is fun, quirky and has a more 'designer' flair. I like No. 2. Beautiful coat and I like your post on Amsterdam.

Sounds like a great trip and the fabric you bought looks gorgeous. The coat is looking good too - I have exactly the same decision making problems with buttons as you, but I am tending to prefer the second, more dressy one. For now anyway.......!

Oooh, that floral silk is soooo stunning!!
I like both your button choices. They would both look equally good, I think!

You had a wonderful trip! Reminds me that I have to do some fabric shopping in Amsterdam again (and certainly find the shop for silk).
My preference would be the second set of buttons, just a little extra sparkle.

The little bow on the back is so cute! I vote for the first buttons, the leather looking ones. Very classic.

Hallo Sena,
LG, berry
