Presseschau: Burda 02-2014

Kaum zu glauben, aber das neue Jahr ist schon wieder zwei Wochen alt und wir starten rein nähtechnisch in den Februar. Dann wollen wir mal sehen, was Burda für uns bereit hält:

Unbelievable but the new year is already two weeks old which brings us already the second Burda issue of 2014. So let's see what Burda has to offer: 

Rock, Modell 106

Rock 106 hat mit den Passen und Kellerfalten interessante Details und ist ein schöner Sommerrock mit viel Bewegungsfreiraum zum Picknicken und Fahrrad fahren. Den merke ich mir mal ....

I like this skirt with the pleats and inverted pleats. I think it will be a nice summer skirt which gives you room to move. I will keep it in mind for later ....

Bikerjacke, Modell 128

Bei diesem Outfit kann ich mal zum Rundumschlag ausholen ;-) Hier gefallen mir Jacke, Hose und Shirt. Nicht notwendigerweise in der Kombination und in der abgebildeten Farbe und/oder dem gewählten Stoff ... aber der Reihe nach.

Die Bikerjacke ist ganz nett. Ich mag den Stehkragen und die Schulterpassen (oder wie die Dinger heißen). Kmmt es zum Stechen, würde ich wohl Burda 01-2014-117 wählen, trotzdem ist dieses Modell ebenfalls ein schöner Schnitt. 

So this outfit has a lot for me. I like jacket, pants and top. Not neccessarily combined in one outfit and in this color and/or fabric ... but let's have a look one by one. 

I think this is again a nice Biker-style jacket. It has a stand up collar and shoulder patches. In direct competetion with the jacket from the January issue, Burda 01-2014-117 would probably win,  but nonetheless, it's a nice jacket pattern.

Bundfaltenhose, Modell 131

Ja, naja, bei der Hose bin ich erst einmal in Wartestellung. Ich weiß nicht recht, ob ich sie gut finde oder nicht. Sie ist mal was anderes. Ich befürchte hier ein wenig, dass sie nicht unbedingt ein Figurschmeichler ist und bei Otto-Normalverbraucherin etwas seltsam anmuten wird. Ich werde mal schauen, ob sie irgendwann in diversen Foren oder Blogs auftaucht und wie dann der Realitätscheck ist ....

I'm undecided when it comes to these pants. Somehow i like them .... It's definelty not the usual Burda pants pattern. I'm afraid that they won't be flattering on most of the bodytypes. I think i will wait, if they will pop up somewhere in bloggerland and if they pass the reality check ....

Shirt, Modell 130

Und zu guter Letzt gibt es noch ein ganz Nettes Top mit Knoteneffekt-Kragen. Ganz nett.

And last but not least, there is a nice top with draping at the neckline. Nice!

Fazit:

Eine gute und solide Ausgabe. Es sind keine Lechz-das-will-ich-haben-Teile für mich dabei, aber immerhin vier Schnittmuster, die in der Zukunft einen zweiten Blick verdienen. 

Conclusion:

This is a solid issue. There is no i.need-to-have-it-pattern there for me, but four patterns which have potential and may get a second view in the future.

..... so erscheint mir die Maschinenstickerei immer noch.

Nun wolle ich meiner Maus aber für den Kindergarten das ein oder andere handfertigen. Die Wahl fiel auf eine Hülle für einen DIN A4-Ordner, in dem Bilder, Liedtexte und Weiteres als Erinnerungsalbum gesammelt werden. 

Und so sieht die fertige Ordnerhülle dann aus:

Mashine Embroidery is still a big mystery to me.   

But i wanted to make some small things for my little witch for kindergarten/nursery. I've started with a cover for a normal folder which will be used to collect paintings, fotos or song texts as a memory.

This is how the finished folder cover looks like:

Die Stickdatei habe ich nach dem Charakter meines Kindes und Namen des Kindergartens ausgewählt ;-) ... und über Dawanda hier gekauft.

I've chosen the embroidery design due to the character of my child and the name of the kindergarten ;-) ... and i bought it here on Dawanda (kind of the German version of Etsy).

Leider war ich so baselig, und habe den Stoff in der Höhe zu knapp bemessen. Jetzt sieht man leider die mit der Overlock versäuberten Kanten. Aber ich kann damit leben und belasse es einfach dabei. Beim nächsten Mal passe ich dann einfach besser auf.

Das Pom Pom Band war auch nicht so toll zu applizieren und ist kein perfekt, sauber gearbeiteter Kreis geworden. Mit so einem Tüddelkram habe ich einfach keine Übung.

Dafür gibt es klare Fortschritte was das Stickergebnis betrifft.

Unfortunately, Ive calculated the height wrong. So you can see the edge which is only finished with the serger. But i can live with this and will make it better next time.

Also i had some problems to attach the pom pom trim clean and in a perfect circle. I just have no experience with these things.

But therefore, i've made clear improvements with the mashine ambroidery.

Fazit:

Alles in allem finde ich die Ordnerhülle richtig niedlich und gelungen. Und meine kleine Hexe stören kleine Nähfehler eh nicht :-)

Conclusion:

In the end, i'm happy with the result. It looks so cute and my little witch doesn't mind any sewing flaws :-)

Aus den Resten möchte ich dann noch einen kleinen Beutel für die Wechselkleidung nähen. Wenn ich denn irgendwann mal dazu komme *seufz* Der Tag hat einfach nicht genu Stunden ......

LBC - Finale

Meine lieben Leser, ich hoffe, ihr hattet geruhsame und besinnliche Feiertage und einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr. Für 2014 wünsche ich Euch Gesundheit, Glück und Zufriedenheit!

Dear readers, i hope you all had some wonderful, relaxing and joyful holidays. For 2014, i wish you all the best! 

Nun aber zu meinem eigentlichen Anliegen. Schon seit einiger Zeit ist mein Mantelt fertig und wurde auch schon fleißig getragen. Den Trage-Test hat er mit Bravour bestanden. Er hat mich ganz schön gefordert. Aber am Ende bin ich sowohl mit dem Endergebnis als auch der Reise dorthin sehr zufrieden.
Leider muss ich mit Frust gestehen, dass es ein Ding der Unmöglichkeit war, wirklich gute Fotos von dem Mantel zu bekommen. Nun, ihr müsst mit den nachfolgenden Fotos vorlieb nehmen, das sind die besten Bilder, die wir während eines schönen Sonntagmorgen-Spaziergang zustande gebracht habem. Bessere kriegen wir einfach nicht hin :-(

Now, my real concern for this post: My coat is finished for a while now and i've worn it already a lot. He passed this test with flying colors. It was a demanding project. But in the end, i'm happy with the result as well as with the journey from the beginning to the finished garment.
Unfortunately, it was nearly impossible to get decent pictures of the coat. You have to live the following pictures. It's the best we have achieved during a wonderful sunday morning walk :-(

Lessons Learned

Ich habe das ein oder andere zum ersten Mal ausprobiert und bin auch ein wenig stolz, das es so gut geklappt hat: Zum Beispiel habe ich zum ersten Paspeltaschen und einen Gehschlitz bzw. Ärmelschlitz genäht. Mit meinen Paspeltaschen habe ich voll Eigenlob schon angegeben. Hier sind jetzt noch ein paar Bilder von dem Geh- bzw. Ärmelschlitz.

I've tried some new sewing techniques during this project. I'm proud that i didn't shy away to try out something challenging and new and also, that  the result turned out so good. I've already bragged with my welt pockets. I've also made back and sleeve vents for the first time. 

Ich habe hier mit Briefecken gearbeitet, weil ich die einfach vom Optischen am Professionellsten fand. Ich bin dabei der Anleitung aus dem Buch The Singer Sewing Reference Library gefolgt (Hier ein Link zu dem Buch via Amazon).

I've made "envelope corners" (it's a literal translation from the German sewing term because i couldn't find the English term). I think this kind of finishing looks the most professional to me. I've followed the instructions from the Singer Sewing Reference Library (Link to Amazon).

Kosten

Bei einem solchen "inspiriert von" Projekt ist natürlich die Frage nach dem "lohnt sich das überhaupt?" interessant. In meinem Fall bin ich auf folgende Kosten gekommen:

• Der Oberstoff ist ein Kaschmir-Polyester-Wollmix und hat für 3m ca.45€ inklusive Porto gekostet.
• Das Futter aus 100% Viskose habe ich bei Karstadt gekauft und hat mich für 2m 12€ gekostet.
• Hier war ich selber ein wenig überrascht, als ich die Kosten zusammen gerechnet habe. Aber die Knöpfe kommen von dem Online-Shop Knopf-Truhe und schlagen mit ca. 18€ inklusive Porto relativ stark zu Buche. Hier habe ich 8 Knöpfe mit 2,3cm Durchmesser und 17 Knöpfe mit 1,5cm Durchmesser gekauft. Die Herausforderung war es, Knöpfe zu finden, die optisch passten und gleichzeitig in unterschiedlichen Größen verfügbar waren. Zusätzlich kommt hinzu, dass es sich um echte Hornknöpfe handelt, die grundsätzlich nicht gerade die günstigsten sind.

Da ich eigentlich immer verschiedene Sorten Einlage und Garn vorrätig habe (die bestelle ich dann gerne auch mal auf Vorrat in 10m Portionen), kann ich hier keine Zahl angeben.
Somit komme ich Summa Summarum auf ca. 75€. Ich möchte hier eigentlich gar keine Kostendiskussion starten. Ich kann für mich einfach sagen, dass ich die Kosten für einen mit Liebe handgefertigten Kaschmirmantel mehr als gerechtfertigt halte.

When you make a Knock Off, I think it is interesting, to compare the costs. In my case i've spent the following:

• The fashion fabric is a Wool-Cashmere-Blend. I've bought 3m for about 45€ including shipping.
• The fabric is a Rayon linning. I've bought 2m of it at a local department store for 12€.
• This was a surprise to me, when i've checked the costs. I've spent about 18€ including shipping only for the buttons. I've bought them online here. They are made from horn. Also, it was a challenge to find buttons available in different sizes. I've bought 8 buttons with a diameter of 2,3cm and 17 buttons with a diameter of 1,5cm.

In addition, i've used interfacing and thread. This is something i usually have in my stash. So i can not specify a number here.

So, in total I've spent about 75€ for my coat. I don't want to start a discussion on the cost of sewn garments vs. ready-to-wear (especially the low end labels). I just can say for myself, that IMO the costs for coat which is handmade with Love, are totally justified.

Passform

Mein erstes Mal mit einem Lekala-Schnitt war eigentlich sehr positiv. Man muss aber zunächst einmal seine Erwartungshaltung korrigieren.

My first experience with Lekala patterns is good. However, first you need to adjust your expectations:

Zur Erinnerung ist hier noch einmal das Original-Kampagnenbild von Burberry. Meiner Meinung nach ist das kein realistisches Endergebnis bezüglich der Passform, das sich für das Leben einer normalsterblichen Frau eignet. Zunächst einmal ist das Model dünn, sehr dünn, und hat einfach die typischen Model-Proportionen (lange Beine, dünne Taille). Kleiderstücke im Allgemeinen und dieser Mantel mit der akzemtuierten Taille im Speziellen wirken dadurch natürlich ganz anders. Dann habe ich den Eindruck, dass das Model nicht wirklich viel drunter trägt. In meinem Alltag muss zumindest ein Winter-Pulli drunter passen, ohne dass ich wie eine Presswurst aussehe. Und ich benötige auch mehr Bewegungsspielraum, also eine etwas lockere Passform mit mehr Bequemlichkeitszugabe, damit ich Auto fahren oder meiner kleinen Eule die Schuhe anziehen kann, ohne dass es spannt oder die Knöpfe aufplatzen.

As a reminder: Here is the picture from the campaign by Burberry. IMO this is not a realistic outcome with respect to fitting and will not work for most women's every day lifes. First of all, the model is thin, really thin and has the usual proportions of a model (long legs, very small waist). Of course, garments in general and this coat with the emphasize on the waist in particular show off totally different on a body shape like this. Furthermore, to me it seams that the model isn't wearing much underneath. My life requires at least a warm sweater underneath. And last but not least, i need more room to move and thus, a looser fit. I need to drive my car or help my little girl to put shoes on without cracking seams or bursting buttons.

Ich bin mit der Passform alles in allem zufrieden. Kleine Änderungen waren dennoch nötig. In meinem Fall habe ich an Brust und Taille etwas Weite weggenommen. Das sind prinzipiell meine üblichen Änderungen. Vielleicht lässt sich die Passform in dem Schnittsystem von Lekala noch weiter optimieren durch die Angabe weiterer Maße oder Körpereigenschaften. Für's erste Mal und auch im Endergebnis bin ich jedoch sehr zufrieden und werde in Zukunft bestimmt noch einmal nach Lekala nähen.

Alltogether, i think the fit on my coat is good. Nonetheless, small changes were neccessary. In my case i made a small bust adjustement and took in some width at the waist. These are my ususal changes, that were needed here as well. Maybe the fit can be opted in this Lekala system by specifying some more parameters or body characteristics. But for my first try, i'm happy with the result and will try some more Lekala patterns in the future.

Ich bin sehr glücklich über meinen neuen Mantel und auch stolz auf mich, dass ich neue Nähtechniken ausprobiert habe und ich dieses aufwendige Projekt trotz Beruf und Familie abgeschlossen habe. Der Mantel hat sich bereits mehrfach im Alltag bewährt und wird von mir bestimmt zu Tode getragen werden.

Conclusion

I really love my new coat and i'm proud that i've tried and learned two new sewing techniques and that i've actually finished this involved project besides family and job. The coat passed the wearing test already and will be worn a lot!

Presseschau: Burda 01-2014

Und wie vermutet, war meine Presseschau gestern in allerletzter Minute bevor dann heute die Januar-Ausgabe eingetroffen ist. Dann legen wir mal los!

As i assumed, my review of the December issue was last minute. Today, the January issue arrived. So, let's continue with the Burda review!

Modell 122:

Oh, ich liebe das Top. Das Top ist genau mein Ding: Ich mag die Raglanärmel und die Raffungen an einem Ärmel und einer Seitennaht. Das werde ich definitiv nähe. Ich werde dann auch gleich mal losstürmen, um passenden Stoff zu kaufen. Bei mir wird es wohl erst einmal eine Version in uni werden. 

I absolutely love this Top. It is totally me. I love the raglan sleeves and the draping at the side seam and shoulder seam. This is next on my to-sew-list. Need to go and buy fabric for this top. I think i'm going to make this in a plain color.

Modell 117:

Ich liebe diese Jacke. Okay, der Bikerjacken-Trend grassiert ja schon eine ganze Weile. Ich gehöre wohl nicht wirklich zu denen, die schnell auf Trends aufspringen. Aber diese Jacke hat's mir angetan. Ich liebe die Absteppungen an den Schultern, den doppelten Reissverschluss vorne. Die will muss ich haben :-)

I love this jacket. The biker jacket trend is on for a while now. But i'm not really an early adopter. But i love this jacket. I like the topstitching at the shoulders and the double zipper closure in the front. I want need to have this jacket :-)

Im Endeffekt sind das "nur" zwei Schnitt in diesem Heft. Aber diese haben absoluten Haben-Will-Charakter, so dass sich dieses Heft für mich voll rentiert!

In Conclusion this issue  contains "only" two patterns for me. But those two patterns are true must-haves for me. So this issue is a winner for me!

Presseschau: Burda 12-2013

Oh oh, jetzt aber schnell, bevor das nächste Heft in meinem Briefkasten landet..... wahrscheinlich habe ich die Presseschau so lange vor mir hergeschoben, weil ich die aktuelle Ausgabe wenig inspirierend fand ....

Oh oh, hurry hurry, or the next issue is already in my mailbox ..... maybe i'm so late with this review because this issue was so uninspiring to me ....

Modell 101: 

Eigentlich ist dieser Trenchcoat das einzige Modell aus dieser Ausgabe, das mir gefällt. Für's Frühjahr möchte ich mir unbedingt einen Trenchcoat nähen. Allerdings tendiere ich momentan zu einer klassischeren Variante à la Burberry. Aber dieser hier ist nicht schlecht..... Ich mag, die Taschenklappen, die ein bißchen wie bei einem Schößchen aufspringen ....

I think this is the  only pattern in the whole issue that i like. I plan to make myself a trenchcoat for this  spring. However, right now i tend to a more classy version à la Burberry. But i think this pattern is not bad .... I like the peplum like pocket flaps ....

Modell 134 und 136:

Leider in Plusgröße. Aber dieses Kostüm gefällt mir sehr, sehr gut. Klassisch und sehr schlicht und die Farbe ist auch toll. Schade, Schokolade......nicht meine Größe :-(

Unfortunately, this is a plus size pattern. I really like this suit. It's classy with simple design lines and it looks gorgeous in this bold red......but not my size :-(

Tja, und das war es auch schon. Magere Ausbeute, nicht wahr?!?

And that's it for this issue. Not much at all, right?!?

LBC - Arrrghs

Dieser Mantel ist wahrhaft eine Reise mit seinen Hoch und Tiefs: Euphorie über den tollen Schnitt, gefolgt von Frustration wegen der Probleme beim Kauf des Schnittmusters, abgelöst durch unbändigen Solz über meine ersten Paspeltaschen .... und jetzt das: Die Taschen sitzen bei mir viel zu tief. Und das nicht nur ein bißchen, sondern bestimmt 15-20cm. Ich kann es mir nur so erklären, dass ich so fokussiert darauf war, die Taschen ordentlich hinzubekommen, dass ich auf deren Position gar nicht sonderlich geachtet habe. Wieder mal ein Hinweis, dass es nicht sonderlich förderlich ist, spät abends und übermüdet zu nähen.

Naja, ich hab jetzt eine Nacht drüber geschlafen. Der erste große Frust ist weg. Und ich habe jetzte beschlossen, das Vorderteil noch einmal neu zu nähen. Ich würde mich ja doch nur über die Taschen ärgern und den Mantel deswegen nicht tragen. 

Es scheint, es war prophetische Weitsicht meinerseits, dass ich vorsorglich mehr Stoff eingekauft habe. Zumindest das Problem besteht nicht auch noch.

Eine zusätzliche Verzögerung also, aber davon lasse ich mich nicht aufhalten, stur bis zum Umfallen :-)

This coat is a journey on its own with its Ups and Downs: Euphoria about the great pattern, followed by frustration due to the problems during the pattern buying process, replaced by pride about the nice first welt pockets ... and now this: The pockets are too low; and not only a little bit, but about 15-20cm too low. My only explanation is that i was so focussed to get the welt pockets right, that i didn't pay attention to anything else. This is another evidence that you shouldn't sew exhausted and late in the night .

However, i've slept over it one night. And my first frustration is gone. I've decided to sew the front again. Otherwise, i would be annoyed by the pockets and wouldn't wear the coat. 

It seems that i was acting with some prophetic wisdom during fabric shopping. I still have enough fabric left, such that it is no problem to start again with the front. 

So, it is a little bit annoying because everything went slowly but nicely together. But it won't stop me :-)

Presseschau: Burda 11-2013

Nach einer längeren Abstinenz, möchte ich meine monatliche Burda-Besprechung wieder aufleben lassen. Allerdings werde ich auf das sonst so beliebte "Burda-Bashing" verzichten. Gedacht ist das Ganze eher als Notiz an mich selbst: Ich schreibe jeden Monat auf, welche Schnitte ich mag. Und so kann ich jederzeit schnell und einfach auf diese Notizen zurückgreifen. 

Los geht's schnell mit der November-Ausgabe, bevor die Dezember-Ausgabe schon wieder da ist:

After a longer break, i want to revive my monthly Burda review. However, i won't do the usual Burda bashing. My idea is to use it as a note to myself: I write down what i like and can come back to it fast and easy. 

So, let's quickly start with the November issue before the December issue is already here:

Modell 103. Bild von Burdastyle.de

Nicht spektakulär. Ich finde aber die Bluse hat Potenzial und lässt sich bestimmt gut kombinieren. Insbesondere weil ich im Winter gerne Strickjacken anziehe und dann Bedarf für "was drunter" habe.

Not spectacular. But i think the blouse has potential and would be a great wardrobe staple, especially because i like to wear cardigans in winter and always need something for underneath.

Das Oberteil sieht auf dem Foto toll aus. Schön ist auch, dass der Schnitt Teilungsnähte hat. Dadurch ist das Oberteil schön auf Figur geschnitten. Dann habe ich aber gesehen, dass es sich um Oberteil und einen Loop (getrennt davon) handelt. Ich sehe da die Gefahr, dass ich die ganze Zeit nur am Zuppeln bin, damit alles an Ort und Stelle bleibt. Man könnte natürlich auch den Loop entsprechend am Oberteil fixieren ... Naja, der Schnitt kommt erst einmal auf die Merkliste......

The Top looks great on the picture. Love that it has shaping seams and thus, can be fitted. But then i looked at the technical drawing and saw, that it is actually a top and a loop. I can see myself already busy keeping everything on its place.  But maybe you can stitch the loop onto the top to avoid this problem ..... So, i put the pattern onto my list ......we will see .....

Hier mag ich die Raffungen entlang der Teilungsnaht vorne. Das könnte ein schönes Winterkleid geben.

I like the gathering in the front. This could be a nice winter dress.

Das Designermodell der Novemberausgabe stammt von Jo No Fui. Ich kannte das Label vorher nicht, finde allerdings, dass der gesamte Look in seiner Schlichtheit seinen Reiz hat. Die Bluse ist eigentlich wie Modell 103 oben: Nicht spektakulär, aber ein schönes Basic-Teil.Der Rock ist schön, passt aber nicht so ganz zu mir und meinem Lebensstil.

This months designer pattern is from a label called Jo No Fui. Didn't know the label before. But i do like the outfit in its simplicity. The top is like model 103: Not spectacular, but a nice basic garment.The skirt is nice but it doesn't work for me nor my lifestyle.

LBC - Part II: Pattern Preparation and Cutting

So, meine Lieben! Weiter geht's mit dem neuesten Objekt meiner Begierde: Einem Mantel nach Lekala 4298 nach dem Vorbild von diesem Burberry-Mantel.

Der Schnitt ist gekauft. Das hört sich jetzt nach einer Lappalie an, aber in meinem Fall war das eine schwere Geburt. Es gibt hier eine Anleitung von Melissa. Die habe ich mir auch durchgelesen .... aber irgendwo bin ich falsch abgebogen. Und von da an, war ich verloren. Wäre ich diesem Schnittmuster nicht so hoffnungslos verfallen, hätte ich abgeschreckt von dem Kaufprozess auch aufgegeben. Nun gut, jetzt habe ich ja das Schnittmuster.

Alle 54 Seiten des Schnittmusters sind gedruckt, zusammengeklebt und die 20 Schnittteile sind zugeschnitten.

Dear readers, let's start with my latest obsession: A coat based on Lekala 4298, inspired by this gorgeous Burberry coat.

I've finally bought the pattern. This sounds like a mere nothing. But in my case, it took me forever. The wonderful Melissa wrote instructions on how to buy Lekala patterns. I've read them .... but somehow i made something different ... and from there i was lost. If i haven't been so much in love with this pattern i may have given up. But finally I've made it.

Now, all 54 pages are printed, glued together and all 20 pattern pieces are cut.

Mein Stoff ist eine Woll-Kaschmir-Mischung (70%Wolle, 20%Kaschmir, 10%PA). Der Stoff ist wunderbar weich und kuschelig. Ich hoffe, er pillt nicht zu sehr. Ich habe von dem Stoff 3m gekauft. Gewöhnlich reichen mir mit viel Gequetsche 2m. Aber mein Stoff hat eine Strichrichtung und der Schnitt hat so viele Schnitteile, da wollte ich auf Nummer sicher gehen. Der Stoff ist übrigens von diesem Ebay-Händler. Ich habe vorher ein Muster bestellt und war sehr zufrieden.

Außerdem bin ich ein großer Fan vom sogenannten "Block-Fusing". D.h. ich habe auf den Stoff im Ganzen Einlage aufgebügelt und schneide dann erst zu.  

My fabric is a wool-cashmere-blend (70% wool, 20% cashmere, 10% PA). It feels wonderful soft and cosy. I really hope that it doesn't pill too much. I've bought 3m of the fabric. Usually, i get along with a little pattern tetris and 2m. But my fabric has a direction and the pattern has a lot of pattern pieces, so i wanted to be on the safe side. I've bought the fabric via ebay here. I've ordered a sample and was happy with the fabric. 

Furthermore, i'm a big  fan of block fusing. I.e. you apply your interfacing on the fabric before cutting it. 

Der Stoff ist auch schon zugeschnitten und mit Einläge verstärkt. Mein Arbeitsplatz ist aufgeräumt und wartet nur noch darauf, dass es losgeht.

Now, the fabric is cut, interfaced, my workspace is cleaned and prepared. So, all is ready to go.

LBC - Little Black Coat

Alle Jahre wieder werde ich befallen von dem Wunsch DEN schwarzen Wollmantel für mich zu nähen. Mein brauner Wollmantel wird von mir nach wie vor heiß und innig geliebt und fast zu Tode getragen.* 

Aber mit der schwarzen Variante will es bisher nicht so recht klappen.

Jetzt bin ich beim Surfen in den Weiten des WWW über ein neues Objekt meiner Begierde gestolpert ... Lechzen und spontane Schnappatmung inklusive;-)

Every now and then i'm hit by the desire to sew a black woolen coat for myself. I still love my brown wool coat  like crazy and i wear it nearly all the time during winter.* But somehow i couldn't find a black version which i do love the same.

Now, while surfing the web,  i've stumbled over this coat..... and fell in love ;-)

Und wie sollte es anders sein: Der Mantel ist von Burberry Prorsum (geht es eigentlich nur mir so, oder lösen die Jacken und Mäntel von Burberry bei euch auch den sponaten Haben-Wollen-Reflex aus?!) und mit seinen schlappen 2.395€ ist der Mantel so was von außerhalb meines Budgets. Puuh, ein Glück kann ich Nähen (ich komme zwar bei Weitem nicht an die Qualität des Originals dran, kann mir aber machen, was und wie ich es will).

Hier sind noch einmal Bilder von der hellen Variante. Ich finde, da kann man die Details etwas besser erkennen: 

The coat is from Burberry Prorsum (somehow nearly all jackets and coats by Burberry trigger a need-to-have-it-reflex in me!). But with its 2.395€ it is far beyond my budget for a coat. Luckily, i can sew, right?! I know that my garments don't reach the quality of Burberry's workmanship, but i can make myself a garment according to my imaginations.

Ziemlich nah dran, nicht wahr :-D Da versuche ich doch mal mein Glück.

Das ist für mich momentan ein ziemlich großes und aufwendiges Projekt. Zu allem Überfluss bin ich beruflich momentan ziemlich stark eingespannt. Ich werde dennoch versuchen, hier und da abends zu nähen und mich in 15 Minuten Einheiten voranzuarbeiten. Es wird also nur langsam voran gehen. Aber ich lasse euch am Entstehungsprozess teilnehmen.

This is quite a big project for me right now.  Work is like crazy at the moment. But i will try to sew in little steps every now and then in the evennings and to get it done. So, progress will be slow. But i will share my journey with you.

* Ich war selber ein bißchen überrascht, dass mein brauner Mantel jetzt schon 4 Jahre alt ist. Aber da sieht man mal wieder, dass es sich lohnt in Qualität zu investieren (zumindest bei einem Mantel). Der Stoff (von Boss) ist wahnsinnig schön und robust. Ich gehe hin und wieder mal mit einem Fusselrasierer drüber. Ansonsten sieht der Mantel noch aus wie neu.

* I was surprised to see that my brown coat is already 4 years old. So you can see that it is worth it to invest ind quality (at least in a long-living and work-intense garment like a coat. The fabric (from Boss) is so nice and robust. Every now and then i get ride of the little fluffs. Otherwise, the coat looks like new.

Meine kleine Eule hat eine Lieblings-Sweatjacke (und jaaaa, sie ist noch keine 2 Jahre alt und hat ein Faible für Klamotten. Woher das bloß kommt?!?). Naja, und die Lieblingsjacke ist langsam bauchfrei. Zeit also für Ersatz zu sorgen. Und in dem Fall finde ich nähen schneller, als durch die Stadt zu laufen und genau das zu suchen.

My little owl has a favorite hooded Cardigan (yes, she isn't 2 years old yet but has a distinctive taste when it comes to clothing. Don't know where that comes from?!?).  Now she is nearly grown out of it. Time to find a replacement. And in this case i find it more convenient to sew it then to find something like that to buy.

Verwendet habe ich Burda 10-2008-140 (wie auch hier schon). Genäht habe ich Größe 92. Nur die Ärmel habe ich abgeändert, damit sie nicht so bauschig sind. Ihre aktuelle Jacke hat eine Kapuze und ist Pink. Ich bin eigentlich nicht so der Fan von Pink und Rosa, daher habe ich die Jacke aus rotem Sommersweat (der ist innen geribbelt und nicht flauschig) genäht. Nur das Oberteil ist mit dem Oberstoff gefüttert, also gedoppelt.

I've used Burda 10-2008-140 (as i did before here). And made a size 92. I've only changed the sleeves and made them less princess-y. The original is fuchsia. But i'm not so fond of pink and fuchsia, so i made this one in red. The fabric is a lightweight sweatshirt fabric. And the upper part is linned with the fashion fabric, such that it has two layers.

Zum Schließen habe ich zum ersten Mal Kam Snaps verwendet und bin hochzufrieden. Super einfach anzubringen, scheinen gut zu halten und ersparen mir eine meiner nicht so geliebten Aufgaben: Knopflöcher nähen :-)

I've used Kam Snaps for the first time and i'm super happy with them. They are easy to apply, seam to work fine and spare me to sew button wholes :-)

Fazit: Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis. Noch ist die Jacke einen Ticken zu groß. Aber das ist auch gut so, dann kommen wir damit vielleicht durch den Winter.
Ich finde auch, dass der Halsausschnitt ein wenig zu weit ist. So blitzt immer der Body durch. Aber vielleicht liegt das auch daran, dass die Jacke noch etwas zu groß ist. Und wenn es richtig kalt ist, werde ich eh diese Unterzieh-Rollis anziehen.

Conclusion: I'm happy with the result. It is a little bit too big right now. But that's fine. That way she may can wear it all winter long. I think only the neckline is a little too wide/low. There is always her babygro (sorry, couldn't find a better translation) showing. But maybe this is because the Top is too big and i'm okay with that. And in case of really low temperatures she will wear this baby-turtlenecks.

vielen Dank für die lieben Kommentare und tollen Komplimente zu dem Flower-Power-Kindermantel. Danke auch allen, die im Sewing for Children Contest auf PatternReview für mich gestimmt haben. Vielen Dank! Ich weiß das wirklich zu schätzen.

Motiviert durch das Ergebnis vom Mantel, habe ich meiner kleinen Eule zwei Kleider und ein Oberteil genäht. Es fehlen jeweils nur noch die Knöpfe. Ich zeige euch dann die Kleidungsstücke, wenn sie fertig sind. Und danach gibt es auch mal wieder etwas für mich. 

Allerdings stehen mir 1.5 Wochen purer Stress auf der Arbeit davor. Und danach geht es direkt in den Urlaub. Zwei Wochen Strandurlaub in der Türkei mit glücklichem Nichtstun, im Sand buddeln, Schwimmen und Seele baumeln lassen.

Motivated by the outcome and feedback on the coat, i've already sewed two dresses and a top for my little owl. Only the buttons are missing. I will show you the garments when they are finished. And then i will return to my normal sewing egoism and sew something for me. 

The next 10 days at work will be pure stress.And afterwards we're going on a two week long vacation to Turkey. Two weeks of happy laziness, sand-digging, swimming and relaxing.

Flower Power - Final Part

Nach den Irrungen und Wirrungen zu Beginn verlief das Nähen des Mantels dann doch recht glatt. Und da Bilder mehr als 1.000 Worte sagen, komme ich ohne Umschweife zum Endergebnis:

Und da der Sewing for Children Contest auf Patternreview Auslöser und Motivator für dieses Projekt war, gibt es seit längerer Zeit auch mal wieder eine Schnittmusterbesprechung....

And the Sewing for Children Contest on Patternreview was trigger and motivator for this project, so here is the first pattern review since a long time .....

Beschreibung:
Das Schnittmuster ist Burda 09-2012-149. Es wird auf Burdastyle.de wie folgt beschrieben: "Er grünt so grün ... Gemeint ist natürlich der Zweireiher hier, mit Bubikragen, Klappentaschen und Ärmelriegeln"

Ich habe den Schnitt ausgewählt, weil er nur Seitennähte hat und sich somit gut für's Besticken eignet. Außerdem mochte ich die eher weite Paßform, die es meiner kleinen Tochter ermöglicht, zu laufen, springen und herumzutollen (oder was Kinder in diesem Alter sonst auch immer tun :-) Und der Bubi-Kragen ist ebenfalls ein schönes und verspieltes Detail.

Pattern Description:
The pattern is Burda 09-2012-149. It is described on burdastyle.com as follows: "This little girls coat looks great made in a bright color! It is double-breasted with a rounded collar and has cute patch pockets with flaps. Just add colored tights and hair band with pom poms for a outfit that is perky and cute."
I've chosen this pattern because it has simple design lines. It has side seams only. So, that would work well with the embroidery. I also like the loose fit, such that my daughter has enough free moving space to run, jump and play (whatever kids do at this age :-) And the peter pan collar adds just the right amount of cute-ness.

Größen:

Den Schnitt gibt es in den Größen 98-122.

Die richtige Größe zu finden, war in meinem Fall ein ziemliches Abenteuer. Besonders da ich absoluter Neuling bin, was das Nähen von Kindersachen betrifft, und das Anpassen mit einem 2-jährigen-sich bewegendem Mädchen nahezu unmöglich ist.

Zuerst habe ich mit der falschen Größe begonne. Meine Tochter trägt momentan Größe 86 (August). Daher wollte ich eine Größe 92 nähen, damit sie den Mantel den ganzen Winter durch tragen kann. Daher habe ich den Schnitt als Download erworben und ihn beim Ausdrucken auf 90% der Originalgröße verkleinert (zumindest dachte ich das). Meine Rechnung war 0,9 * Größe 98 = Größe 88,2 (und da Burda groß ausfällt, sollte das passen). Aber der Mantel war viel zu groß und sie ist darin regelrecht ertrunken. (wie ich hier bereits berichtet habe)

Also habe ich neu angefangen und den Schnitt auf 75% der Originalgröße verkleinert.

Dieses Mal habe ich das Kontrollkästchen kontrolliert und festgestellt, dass ich den Schnitt tatsächlich auf 85% verkleinert habe (und nicht auf 75%). Das erklärt natürlich eine Menge ......

Pattern Sizing:
 The pattern comes in kids sizes 98-122.
To find the right size was quite a journey. Especially, because i'm new to kids sewing and fitting is difficult with a 2-year-old-moving-girl.
First, i've started with the wrong size. My little girl wears 86 at the moment (August). I wanted to sew size 92 such that she can wear it during the whole winter. That's why i've bought the pattern as a download and resized it while printing. I've chosen to downscale the pattern to 90% of the original size. So, i've started all over again. This time, i've downsized the pattern to 75% of the original size.

Yes, except my changes.

War die Anleitung leicht zu verstehen?

Die Anleitung war typisch Burda eben. Wie gewöhnlich habe ich sie nicht gebraucht. Mich verwirren sie eben einfach mehr als das sie mir helfen. Zum Beispiel heißt es dort "Naht- und Saumzugaben: Nähte und Kanten 1,5 cm, Saum und Ärmelsäume 4 cm, am Futter 1,5 cm." Ich denke, Burda sollte uns großzügiger ein Verb spendieren. So ist unklar, ob die Nachtzugaben enthalten sind oder hinzugefügt werden müssen. Und ein einziges Wort würde da KLahrheit schaffen ....

Were the instructions easy to follow?
It is typically Burda. Usually i don't use the instructions at all. Because to me they are more confusing than helpful. I'm using the German instruction, but i think there are no differences between the German and English instructions. For example it says "Seam Allowances: Seams 1.5 cm, Hems 4 cm". I think Burda should be so generous and donate us a verb. This way it is not clear if the seam allowances are included or need to be added.

Was magst Du besonders bzw. überhaupt nicht an dem Schnittmuster?
Ich war auf der Suche nach einem möglichst einfachen Schnitt der für die von mir angedachte Stickerei funktioniert. Außerdem mochte ich den Bubi-Kragen und die weite Paßform.

What did you particularly like  or dislike about the pattern?
I was in the search for simple design lines that work with the embroidery. I also like the peter pan collar and the relaxed fit.

Verwendeter Stoff:
Als ich begonnen habe, hatte ich den perfekten Kaschmirstoff von einem UFOs/TfT-Mantel für mich dafür vorgesehen.

Als ich dann noch einmal von vorne begonnen habe, konnte ich nicht mehr exakt denselben Stoff bekommen. Er hat zwar auch 70% Wolle, 10% Kaschmir und 20% Polyamid, aber fühlt sich nicht danz so weich und soft an. Nichtsdestotrotz ist der Stoff sehr schön.

Und da ich nicht ganz sicher war, ob der Mantel für kalte Wintertage warm genug ist, habe ich ihn mit Steppfutter gefüttert.

Fabric Used:
When i've started, i've used some wonderful soft and luscious Cashmere fabric from one of my UFOs/wadders. It was intended as a coat for myself which i've blogged about here.
When I've started again i couldn't find the exact same fabric and bought some Cashmere/Wool blend. It consists of 70% Wool, 10% Cashmere and 20% Polyamid. It isn't as soft and luscious as the previous fabric but still nice and beautiful.
I wasn't sure if it would be warm enough for our cold winters, so i've lined it with quilted lining (sorry, don't know if this is the right word).

Änderungen an dem Schnittmuster oder am Design:

Ich habe die Riegel an den Ärmeln, die Taschen weggelassen und ihn ein- statt zwei-reihig genäht.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
I've omitted the sleeve bands, pockets, the tab in the back and made it single breasted.

Würdest du das Schnittmuster nochmals nähen? Würdest Du es anderen empfehlen?

Ja, ich würde den Schnitt gerne noch einmal in einer Knallfarbe nähen, vielleicht in rot, und in dem Original-Design. Ja, ich empfehle ihn anderen.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would like to sew it in a bright color like for example red and with the design features from the original design. Yes, i recommend it to others.

Fazit:

Ich liebe den Mantel und finde ihn super-süß. Und meiner Kleinen scheint er auch zu gefallen. Als ich ihn ihr gezeigt habe und sie gebeten habe, ihn anzuprobieren, ist sie ganz artig gekommen und hat ihn angezogen - ohne zu weinen, schreien oder wegzurennen, wie sie es sonst schon mal gerne tut. Und zu guter Letzt, gibt es noch ein paar Detailfotos.......

Conclusion:
I love it. And even my daughter seems to love it. Usually, she refused to dress on. But when i've showed her the coat and asked her to try it on, she came dutifully and didn't cry or run away.
